The founder, Denzil Deacon, started Picture Hanging Services 30 years ago. It was the first picture hanging company in South Africa. Before starting PHS, he co-owned a framing business which focused on high quality conservation framing. There were no specialised picture hanging services available at the time so the company was constantly being called upon to help with the hanging of artwork for their clients.
His son, Brett, now owns the business in full capacity and is fully committed to take the business in further in the future.
PHS has been privileged to work in some of the most beautiful areas, hotels, guest houses and homes in the world. Most of our work is obviously centred around our home base in Cape Town but we do operate both nationally and internationally. Some of our national “away” projects include the 5 star Westcliff Hotel in Johannesburg, the beautiful RiverBend Country Lodge near Addo, the prestigious Leopard Creek Golf Estate at Malelane in Mpumalanga, The Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga and the Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe.
Internationally, Picture Hanging Services handled the layout and hanging of artwork during revamping of the beautiful Hotel d’Angleterre in Geneva, Switzerland and the Summer Lodge Country Hotel in Dorset, UK. We also handled a large exhibition in New York City, a riverboat in France and several hotel projects in London. Closer to home, we hung the artwork, mirrors and objects d’art at the Bushmanskloof Country Lodge in the Cederberg, the Lanzerac Hotel in Stellenbosch and the Mount Nelson, Arabella Sheraton and Twelve Apostles Hotels in Cape Town.
Brett was recently in the United Kingdom where he completed a two week installation in Cornwall and Salisbury.
We have also done a great deal of work on other local hotels, wine farms and golf estates. On a daily basis, we hang artwork for picture framers, architects, decorators, galleries and, of course, local businesses and private clients.
We have been faced with some very special (and sometimes tricky) situations and have acquired some expertise in dealing with damp, ventilation, lighting and security concerns.
We supply and install gallery hanging systems, make up our own customised hangings for special situations, and we even manufacture our own platehangers.
